Overall concept is to prove your dedication to
the independent research, learning, and content consumption/production in the
area of Web 2.0 technology/resources...this is one big piece of evidence to
demonstrate your personal commitment to learning inside and outside of the
course. If you aren't sure you are doing it write, submit ahead of time with
questions and areas for feedback, and I will help you!
PLN directions.... more structure....for those who need it.
Your PLN and your useful TOOL list. (not to be turned in til November, but needs to be ongoing!)
- Start by exploring the tools, resources and blogs in your areas of joy and passion... find some tools that inspire you, some bloggers or twitter users that you can relate to, or stick with a well loved tool (like facebook) and see if you can CONNECT with some personal/professional interest pages that will educate you in new ways)
- Explore through a comfortable tool first-- and if you don't have one- start with the livebinder links I've got to find something!
- I suggest you start with one central bookmarking service for when you find a site you like or want to come back to and don't have time to use it at the moment. (I'm using livebinder/pinterest most often, but also have feedly or bookmarks as backup, but MANY more exist ...jogtheweb, stumble upon, diigo, delicious... ). When I was a new techie-- I just made a favorites list and/or pasted addresses I liked into a word document!)
- As you find favorites or places you are going back to regularly.... then you need a SPOT to put them and 'annotate' them to show your effort!! So I also suggest you search for a Web 2.0 tool to use to collect and EXPLAIN resources you like for your PLN or tools you want to use for assignments (personally or with your elementary/high school kids in the future.) My fav thus far is livebinder (for others) pinterest (for my personal comments) because it easily takes a website (with a side bar for comments), a video, picture, powerpoint, word document, pdf, every file I've ever wanted to save, and can be included. It's also private (until you make it public) so no one can see it til I choose, and has a button that you can just 'livebinder it' when you are online!
But I am all about ...Choices, choices, choices...because you are all DIFFERENT and have different needs, learning styles, and energy for this course! I like choices and I hope you find it helpful. Here are some other factors to consider in your decision for bookmarking, documenting your PLN and tool use:
- if in doubt, just start with the "google" suite of tools (blogger, googledocs...) don't get confused by choosing all the trendy ones... then move on to what you like or don't like.
- EVIDENCE of your exploration, use of technology-- start with ONE place to showcase your learning (a googledoc, a livebinder, a bookmark list in process, etc.)
- You need to work at developing your PLN (and compiling evidence that you have one.) (I suggest a livebinder that includes videos, docs, and websites might be easiest, but you could just make a googledoc and use that, you can link to ALL those things and include images!) If you were really scared by online proof-- you could make a webpage in WORD and document all this and just email it to me as an attachment!! But if you use a NEW tool- making a PLN can meet using a TOOL and you can double dip your work- if you do it in word-- then it won't count as using a new tool, but if that makes your head feel less confused because this will be a lot of links/documents, then start where you are comfortable.
- You also need to be documenting how you have been exposed to and USED web 2.0 tools, resources. You may do this with a dropbox file, a jog, a livebinder, etc... But you need to have pictures, screenshots, links, documents to showcase things you have created using the free tools that inspire you this semester.
If you want to make your own LiveBinder....
here is the best blog entry I've seen- that teaches you what it is and links you to HOW to make your own....with MANY great links and tutorials!
Livebinders in the Classroom
if all else fails, livebinders also has their own helps!
Don't forget to add the LiveBinder It! tool to your browser!
